Beth Maltzie has long been committed to improving the lives of others. She joined the Waypoint team in April of 2024 and has since made an immeasurable impact as a Kinship Navigator. With compassion at the center of her work, Beth shows up each day ready to listen, encourage, and walk alongside the families she serves.
Beth’s dedication to helping others began long before her time at Waypoint. For years, she was a foster parent for teenagers. Reflecting on that experience, Beth shares how intentionally she approached foster parenting, determined to learn as much as she could. “I’m a researcher. If I don’t know something, I’m going to go to the ends of the Earth to find out,” she says. As she gained knowledge and experience, she began sharing what she learned with others. Eleven years ago, her desire to support fellow foster parents led her to become a nonprofit founder of the Central New Hampshire Foster and Adoptive Parent Support Group, which she still runs today.
Beth’s work supporting foster parents eventually inspired a parent in her group—a current Waypoint employee—to refer her to the Kinship Navigator position. Now, while continuing to run her nonprofit, Beth meets with clients daily, creating a welcoming space where they can openly share their concerns and needs. From there, she helps guide them toward community resources tailored to their unique situations. No two days look the same, and that is exactly what she loves. Whether she’s helping families navigate benefits or connecting clients with services like mental health care, childcare, elder support, or educational opportunities, Beth approaches every task with patience and care.
Clients also turn to Beth for personal support with parenting skills, understanding childhood trauma, nutrition, budgeting, stress management, and meeting essential needs such as food, clothing, and housing. She understands that sometimes what people need most is simply someone who will truly listen. “Whatever it is, I’m there to listen, remain judgment free, and do my best to help in any way I can,” Beth says.
Beth offers not only guidance but also reassurance and steady encouragement during difficult seasons. In addition to leading her support group through her nonprofit, she also facilitates the Kinship Support Group at Waypoint and teaches a kinship class called Parenting a Second Time Around. With space and childcare generously provided for both the Kinship Support Group and the class by the YMCA, adults and children build meaningful relationships and discover they are not alone in their journey. Watching families support one another is one of the greatest joys of her role. She has seen how powerful it is when caregivers realize they are not alone in facing these challenges.
Beth’s favorite part of being a Kinship Navigator is seeing caregivers grow in confidence and recognize their own strengths. She deeply respects the complexity and intensity of the role kinship caregivers step into, and that respect fuels her commitment to offer steady, unconditional support. While Waypoint is fortunate to have Beth, she feels equally grateful to be part of the team and values the sense of support among her colleagues. She shares that it is “…the knowledge that everyone has… You can go to all kinds of people to ask questions.”
Through Beth’s compassion, experience, and genuine care for others, she continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of the families she serves. Her dedication and unshakeable belief in families reflect the heart of Waypoint’s mission of empowering people throughout New Hampshire.
